My Best Friend’s Having a Baby!

Last year, I got the best and worst news of my life: my best friend is having a baby. She’s the first in my close circle to become pregnant, so naturally, I had any normal person’s reaction and cried for the first ten minutes of finding out (not the happy kind, the “oh my god my life is over” kind).

Social media is full of friends and family reacting to pregnancy announcements with screams of joy and tears of happiness, but no one tells you about the bit of sadness that comes with it too. Natalie’s my best friend — my go to person when I want to travel abroad to a city in the middle of nowhere, my right hand girl when I need a second person at weddings, the first person I text when I want to see a last minute movie or go on a hike. Simply put, so much of my life is centered around being her friend and knowing a big change is coming is really scary (but exciting too).

Don’t worry, I’ve since warmed up to the idea of having a little baby around. The thought of having a third chaotic person to help us wreak havoc and gossip with is too much for my heart to bear. Plus, it’s looking like she’ll be a fellow Pisces so I already know we’re going to be little creative besties together as soon as she’s out of the womb.

But until she gets here, I’m soaking up these last few months that I get Natalie all to myself. So we packed up our favorite non-alcoholic bevvies and Nat’s treasured tomato crop top and spent the afternoon taking photos in her dad’s backyard. These are some of my favorite portraits of her I’ve ever taken — soaking up the sun in the place where she used to play as a child, getting ready to welcome her own in just a few short months.

Reyna Goldie Davidina Allenco Carrasco, hurry up girl. We’re ready for ya.
