Eunice Beck is a documentary and film photographer specializing in weddings and elopements in New Mexico.

As someone who grew up in the desert, and loves hot weather and southwestern architecture, I have a real soft spot for this state.

It’s easy to see why New Mexico is becoming a popular spot for weddings —with warm spring weather, incredible landscapes, and rich culture, this is the perfect place to host you (and your guests) for the perfect wedding getaway.

With over 100 weddings under my belt, I am well prepared to help you plan the high-desert wedding of your dreams — one that prioritizes the love you have for your partner, and all of the memories and feelings you want to experience on your one and only day.

Below, you’ll find all of my best wedding recommendations for New Mexico. I hope you find something that inspires you.

The Best Wedding Venues in New Mexico

Los Poblanos

If you’re looking for classic Spanish southwestern architecture with acres of gardens and lavender fields, I would recommend Los Poblanos Historic Inn and Farm. Tucked in the Rio Grande river valley, this running farm also serves as a retreat for guests and is the perfect place for couples looking for a more low-key wedding experience.

Built in the 30s by a renowned Santa Fe style architect John Gaw Meem, this farm now includes 46 guest rooms, a full-service spa, an outdoor pool, lush gardens, and a farm-to-table restaurant, making this the perfect venue for those looking for a relaxed weekend with their closest family and friends.

El Rey Court

For those who want the adult summer camp feel of having all of their guests in one space, I would recommend El Rey Court. This historic, newly-renovated inn is expertly designed, staying true to it’s southwestern, New Mexican roots while including a touch of modern elements, making it the perfect venue for art lovers who want a more relaxed setting for their wedding weekend.

With 86 rooms, an on-site bar, a swim club, and just a short drive away from historic downtown Santa Fe, this is the perfect setting for couples who just want the simplicity of having all of their favorite people in one place while having easy access to the best parts of Santa Fe. The inn also offers a garden space, a courtyard, and an open lawn as event spaces, giving couples the cozy feel of backyard wedding while offering the luxury of being at a hotel.

Ghost Ranch

For lovers of the outdoors who want to take advantage of all of the incredible landscapes that New Mexico has to offer, I would recommend Ghost Ranch. Once home to famous painter Georgia O’Keefe, this venue is the perfect place for those that want to be surrounded by nature for their wedding weekend.

Offering both indoor and outdoor accommodations, access to lots of activities (like horseback riding, kayaking, and hiking), and close range to museums (like Georgia O’Keefe’s home studio!), this is the perfect venue for outdoor lovers and art lovers alike.

Pecos National Historic Park

For those that want to elope (or have an intimate ceremony) out in nature, I would recommend Pecos National Historic Park. Once a powerful center for trade and culture for the Indigenous Pecos people, this historic site now serves as an outdoor museum and park.

This open-air church is not only a place of rich history, but also makes for a stunning setting for a small ceremony. This park is the perfect venue for those who want to include a bit of New Mexico’s history and landscapes into their wedding day, before having the rest of their celebration in the city (I recommend La Mama!).

New Mexico Museum of Art

For lovers of art and southwestern architecture, I would recommend the New Mexico Museum of Art (the Plaza location). Located in the heart of downtown Santa Fe, this is the perfect venue for couples who want to show their guests all of the rich culture that New Mexico has to offer.

With access to their main courtyard, the historic St. Francis auditorium, and their galleries, this is a great venue for those who want to use both indoor and outdoor spaces for their day. It’s also within walking distance from the historic La Fonda inn, making it easily accessible for those who want to stay right in the center of the city.

  • I would recommend anywhere between late March - early June or September - early November. This is when you’ll get those mild temperatures, without excessive heat or snow.

  • For 35mm, I will typically shoot with a Canon 1V and a Contax G2. On slower days, I might also bring out my trusty Canon A1!

For 120, I will typically shoot with a Pentax 645 as well as a Holga 120N!

my approach

As someone with over ten years in the industry (and having been a past bride myself), I’m incredibly passionate about weddings, and know just how special it is to have all of your favorite people in the world in one place; and how magical it feels to look at a photo and almost be able to hear it, to be instantly transported back to that moment in time.

That’s why, for me, being a documentary photographer starts with getting to know you — your humor, your love languages, your personalities — and taking all of that knowledge, and using it to create photographs that really feel like you.

As a documentary photographer, I understand the delicate balance of capturing things as they happen, but know when to take the lead when the camera shyness kicks in. I know when to let a moment be, and when to jump in with a suggestion. I’ve mastered the art of being a fly on the wall, but can also throw myself into the group when the time calls for it.

You’ll rarely see me with a shot list, because I know that the best photographs come from the moments you won’t be prepared for, the ones you can’t find on a Pinterest board. I look for the messy, the accidental, and the spontaneous moments — the ones that are exclusively created by the two of you and your hand-picked group of people. Your one and only story is unique. Your photographs should be too.

Above all, my biggest priority will always be that you get to truly be present on your wedding day. I’m just here to elevate the experience and get some beautiful photographs of it all.
